Energy company taps our reporting expertise

BG Group has benefited from Two Tomorrows’ insight into sustainability reporting best practice and our assurance expertise.

During 2011, we advised the international leader in natural gas exploration, production, storage and supply on how it could further develop its leadership position in sustainability reporting. Our recommendations were based on a benchmark we carried out for BG Group using our Tomorrow’s Value Rating methodology to compare the company’s recent sustainability reporting with that of other major players in the energy sector. We also consulted with BG Group stakeholders to assess how well its reporting had covered the company’s material issues.

More recently, we carried out independent assurance of BG Group’s 2011 sustainability report. We examined sustainability performance data and related claims in the report. We also checked to see that the report met the criteria for the Global Reporting Initiative A+ application level.

One of the challenges for BG Group in managing and reporting its sustainability performance is collating data from across its global operations. In recent years, its reporting has focused on the types of major issues faced by many international energy companies including climate change, employee and contractor safety, major hazard risk and asset integrity, water management, local community concerns, and bribery and ethical conduct.
